Movie box office results for the Oct. 14-16 weekend (all amounts US$) plus IMDb trivia:
1. Black Adam ($67.0M)
— Dwayne Johnson was originally supposed to debut his Black Adam character in 2019 in the "Shazam!" movie he considered doing before this one. But the actor/producer opted to give Black Adam his own film. This opening weekend is Johnson's best yet as a lead character. REVIEW: "Black Adam" squanders a heroic opportunity for Dwayne Johnson.
2. Ticket to Paradise ($16.3M)
— This is only the second rom-com George Clooney has made in his movie career. His first rom-com, opposite Michelle Pfeiffer in "One Fine Day" (1996), was only the second big movie role for this former TV star ("ER").
3. Smile ($8.4M)
— Aussie actor Caitlin Stasey plays a character named Laura in this film and also the short film that spawned it, "Laura Hasn't Slept." She was part of the Australian Girls Choir in a Qantas commercial, singing "I Still Call Australia Home."
4. Halloween Ends ($8.0M)
— Last week's box office champ dropped 80% in its second weekend, including a near-record 89% drop on Friday. Looks like it really is the end for this horror franchise.
5. Lyle, Lyle Crocodile ($4.2M)
— In a "True or False?" promo quiz for the movie, Australian wildlife expert Robert Irwin asked actors Shawn Mendes and Javier Bardem to vote on whether crocodiles can hold their breath underwater for eight hours. Correct answer: true. 🌓
